Abstract

Automated sample preparation and image acquisition equipment has enabled new kinds of large-scale biological experiments. Such experiments have led to some notable successes, but their wider application to diverse biological questions requires robust, fully automated image analysis. This chapter examines the role in probabilistic information in managing ambiguity in the different stages of image analysis by presenting techniques for segmenting, measuring, querying, and mining biological images.
